“ Where they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings.”

Heinrich Heine

My education has been so unwitting I can’t quite tell which of my thoughts come from me and which from my books, but that’s how I’ve stayed attuned to myself and the world around me for the past thirty-five years. Because when I read, I don’t really read; I pop a beautiful sentence into my mouth and suck it like a fruit drop, or I sip it like a liqueur until the thought dissolves in me like alcohol, infusing brain and heart and coursing on through the veins to the root of each blood vessel

Bohumil Hrabal

This new dance project – a 70-minute solo – is a free arrangement from the Czech novel « Too Loud a Solitude » by Bohumil Hrabal. Some years ago I came upon a Persian translation of this book, and on reading this novel, a strange feeling came over me, as if I was reading a novel on the reality of our daily life even in the modern world. Since then, making a scenographic adaptation of it has been in my mind. In the world over censorship and book destruction are common practice. How can a man live when his duty is to destroy, burn or pulp books ? I will be alone on the stage to personify this character. I will be alone in my murderous dance, that which consists in packing up books and destroying them afterwards. But this solitude will be haunted by the discovery of the Last Book. I will dream about Love, I will sing the poetry of another world, I will escape from my dictatorial reality to contemplate the line of an infinite horizon.
